Hey, my loves! Welcome back to Dominican Curly. If this is your first time on my site I appreciate you stopping by. If you enjoy content related to healthy hair care, definitely subscribe here. If you want to catch up on previous posts, I recommend you start here. Because I now host through Shopify, I separated my blog between Old Blog and New Blog just to make it easier to find certain posts. Shopify is amazing for my shop but the blog organization is limited.

Today I’ll be sharing a new experience with you guys. This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending my very first natural hair event! One of my goals for the year is to network more locally, so I knew this would be a great opportunity for me. Curls, Coils & Cocktails was hosted by Aunt Jackie's Curls & Coils at a local salon here in South Florida. Although I couldn't enjoy the cocktails, you better believe I had my fair share of hors-d'oeuvres and probably one too many cupcakes!

I'm familiar with Maggie Rose Salon as I get my hair cut here by Chanel. If you live in this area and are looking for curly experts, I highly recommend it. They have locations in Broward and in Miami Dade. Fun fact: this was the salons first time allowing a brand to come in and host an event here!

The event set up was beautiful, you can tell a lot of thought went into aesthetics and presentation. The main table featured products from the brand's various lines, which everyone in attendance was able to open up and smell. I don't know about you guys but I loveee products that smell good! Scent is definitely important for me. The brand representatives were not only sweet and friendly, but they were also really knowledgeable about the products and how they worked with different hair textures. Erika, the brand and product manager, was very relatable and gave great tips regarding how you should cocktail their leave-ins, styling creams, and gels.

I think the demonstrations the stylists did were definitely the highlight of the afternoon! Two women, one with tighter curls and one with looser curls, got their hair cleansed, conditioned and styled with Aunt Jackie's products. It was awesome to see how the products worked on different textures! Everyone got to ask questions throughout the entire process. Of course it was cool to get answers from professionals, but in my opinion, it was also really nice to hear from other attendees. Each question created conversations in which women shared their individual tips and techniques. It reminded me of why I started my blog in the first place, not because what works for me is supposed to work for you, but to encourage you to embrace what you got and fall in love with the process of figuring it out! A few lucky ladies won boxes with full-sized styling products and everyone else took home product samples, and a beautiful scarf or t-shirt.

Networking? Check. I invited the talented Sabrina from curlyfrosista.com, you might recognize her from my sites home page. We each connected with so many lovely naturals that I'm sure we’ll be seeing again soon. From bloggers to small business owners, it was very inspiring to meet so many positive, goal driven women! I even reconnected with someone from high school. In the future, I would love to host events such as these and also host events in local middle and high schools. I left this event with a ton of great ideas!

I'm definitely looking forward to attending events like this regularly. A huge shout out to Aunt Jackie's for inviting me to this one! Without them, I'm sure I would have seen this after the fact and would be upset about missing it lol.

Have you ever been to a natural hair event? If not, would you?

I’ve been to a few curly hair events here in New York and I really liked them. It provides a great opportunity to get hair products I enjoy at a discount, learn about new brands and make new curly hair friends :-)

The event looked amazing and I like how intimate it was. I can tell it was much easier to interact with everyone. Being here in Atlanta, I get many opportunities to go to natural hair events and although I still enjoy the vibe, they are usually so big that it can be crowded and impersonal. I loved your write up on this event .

I would love to go to a curly hair event! I’m ao jealous but also so happy to see your flourishing and getting more presence hun! While I have used aunt Jackie’s in the past, they are a brand I have to be careful with because I assumed they were fully cg friendly, but I bought one of their strengthing deep conditioners and realized it has dimethicone in it! So while I love their flaxseed line, I do have to be a bit careful with them.

Omg this looked so fun! I’m glad you were able to go and enjoy yourself! We’ve only had one natural event here in Charlotte, NC and I was able to go and enjoyed myself so much. It’s nothing like meeting new people and seeing everyone’s different textures! There are supposed to be more events coming soon and best believe I’ll be there so I can blog about it 😍
